Seagate HDD

Postby redliner on Fri May 05, 2006 4:49 pm

hey everyone,i have a problem in my seagate HDD.i cannot do any edit to the partitions.i used partition magic to delete partitions it says its done successfully but when i restart nothing changes.
i ran hdat2 but i get FROZEN next to the drive.i tried the following but it didnt work:

Q: How to bypass a Security and/or DCO frozen state ?

A: Turn off PC, remove ribbon (data) cable from this hard drive (not the power cable), turn on PC and after boot from floppy you can connect ribbon (data) cable back to hard drive and start up HDAT2. Don't worry - program can detect this device.
Notice: this is valid only for PATA drivers, not for SATA drivers.

whats the solution?

thanks

Hi,

take a last version 4.04.02 of HDAT2 and send me a BIX DEBUG file
(Save to file menu and only first item - "Save DEBUG Data") please.

To wipe partition table select Drive Level Test menu,
with arrow go to Wipe Drive and in Parms menu (press a key "P")
select first and last sector = 0.

Hi,

The message SECURITY FROZEN has no effect to these errors.

1. in SMART menu - Read Attribute Data:

these 4 following items are bad:

Code: Select all
! Spin Up Retry Count                    10   97    100  100  0
^ Failed in the past.
  Current Pending Sector Count          197    0     90   90  8215
  Off-Line Uncorrectable Sector Count   198    0     90   90  8215
  Ultra DMA CRC Error Rate              199    0    200  199  1

It seems your HDD has 8215 pending sectors (are waiting to remap to good sectors but your HDD has no more free good sectors).

But

Code: Select all
Reallocated Sector Count          5    36    100   100  0

no any reallocation is done on hard drive.

2. in SMART menu - Summary Error Log:

Device error count: 379
Command 'Read/WRITE DMA EXT' at LBA sector 10326269 etc.

I think your HDD is going out of life

If you don't care about data on HDD try to wipe whole disk
Try it from end of drive - you have to find if you cannot write to some sectors are only or whole disk.

Maybe you can do something with Seagate TMOS or PC3000, but i don't know this detailed yet so i cannot help you more, sorry.

It could be corrupted firmware also you can try to change PCB from the same model.

No more ideas sorry. Good luck.

Maybe somebody else on forum can help you...
