forum,
this is has me stumped. recently purchased a swann dvr4 survellience system. it can detect hard drives up to 400gb. problem i currently have is hard drive detection. initially the system detected the following hard drives
1)seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb
2)western digital wd1600jb 160gb
But after a week, they become undetectable, however, the following is detected:
3) seagate medalist 17242 17.2GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a prehistoric HD.
with my limited knowledge with HD fault finding, i ran through a checklist for (1) & (2):
jumper checks,
cable checks & swap
SMART diagnostic checks - ALL PASS
HD wipe - in progress
bad sector checks chkdisk /p /r - ALL PASS
format & partition - PASS
connect to winXP system - PASS
winXP detection - PASS
All i can summise is the maybe i have to disable the S.M.A.R.T function?(TBA)
What else can be so different from the new & older hard drives?
another observation is this. when the drive becomes undetectable in the swann unit, the drive locks up into a repeat sequence. play 5secs, rewind 1s, play 5secs, over & over. Do hard drives have built-in cut off features? if so, how can they be reset?
looking forward to some suggestions,
turbo.
