HDAT2 in Linux?

Good day,

I've noticed that HDD diagnostics software like HDAT2 only runs in DOS-like environment. I know this is rather silly to ask this question, but I really need to know the answer. So here goes

1. Can diagnostic software like HDAT2 runs in Linux (multi-task mode)? If not, what's the reason(s)?

2. I've seen company like hdd-tools.com offers remote firmware repair services via customer Windows environment. Can I safely assumed if it is possible to do it via GUI mode we can perform HDDs diagnostics in any other platforms (Windows, Linux etc) via GUI mode too?

3. What would be the limitation if we perform HDD diagnostics via GUI-mode?

It would very much appreciate if any of the gurus here can point me to the right direction
Thanks in advance

Hi,

sorry for late answer (holiday).

1. HDAT2 runs only in DOS mode, another diagnostics SW can run
in multi-task mode, why not?

2. Yes.

3. Mostly you need a direct access to device.
Therefore I prefer a single-task DOS mode.

I am not a guru for multi-task system, maybe somebody else can help you.
